Night of the Museums 2015

At the 2015 edition of the European Night of the Museums, “Dumitru Furnica Minovici” Museum of Ancient Western Art, the house-museum especially built for the collection itself, and the Association invited visitors to admire an exceptional heritage that also comprises no less than 35 objects designated as national heritage within the thesaurus legal class. Alongside them, visitors’ eyes were caught by a recently refurbished set of 18th century Rocaille-style chairs.

For those who enjoy the idea of time travelling, a few sketches and blueprints used for building the house-museum were temporarily available to the public inside the museum. The harmony of the exterior lines and the spatial orientation of the interior are the result of over 400 sketches belonging to the founder, as well as to Enzo Canella, the commissioned architect. Architectural and ornamental details, otherwise hard to get a glimpse of, became the centre of attention.

On 2014 Night of the Museums edition, members of our Association greeted visitors to the “Dumitru Furnica-Minovici” Museum of Ancient Western Art with flyers and information on two recently restored exhibits from the museum collection:  “Still Life with Hunted Birds” easel painting, attributed to Jan Fyt, and an Italian school decorative art piece – a dowry chest.

That night, visitors were pleasantly impressed by the new QR code labels available for select objects of the collection. Visitors were able to access additional descriptive information and to trace and follow in mind the impressive path of the “Dumitru Furnica-Minovici” collection.

And not in the least, that night the Association agreed to participate in a French initiative called “Kaleidoscope”. This application was made available for one night only to visitors who then were asked to take pictures of themselves in museums (“Museum Selfie”). Visitors inspired by the museums’ heritage became participants in its promotion.  “Dumitru Furnica-Minovici” Museum transmitted to the organizers the pictures taken by local visitors (without flash). And then, the French made available to the public the photos taken all over the world and projected on screens installed inside museums.

 “Stained Glass at Nightfall”

 For the 2013 Night of the Museums, the Association encouraged visitors to discover again the impressive stained glass collection (Fifteenth – Nineteenth centuries) at the “Dumitru Furnica-Minovici” Museum of Ancient Western Art. The lights system outside the museum-house allowed the stained glass to truly shine.

In addition to publishing flyers on most representative pieces of stained glass in the collection, our Association, with the support of the National University of Arts, Bucharest, produced videos which show the glass making technique, the tools and typical workspaces. A few   modern stained glass pieces   brought to the museum at that time for one night – became silent witnesses to discussions about tradition and continuity in the art of the stained glass.
